    Abortion + Pro-Voice

After finishing my art installation in the show, I decided to share some details about an event that has deeply impacted my life and my work because a.) I don't want to hide it or lie about it and b.) I think there should be people out in the world humanizing the abortion experience, and the only people that can really do that are people like me, people who have gone through it. I can't expect someone else to do what I am not willing to do.

So, here is a direct and short version of that story.

When I shared the link on Facebook, people messaged me privately with their experiences and also shared links to other women who are attempting to speak on this difficult subject. Their response reminded me of a post I saw on Amanda Palmer's blog about Nicole Stewart, who shared five things that surprised her about her abortion. From there I found Exhale Pro-Voice

It has been really moving to follow where each shared piece of information leads.

Recently I started reading "The Subversive Stitch" by Rozsika Parker and within the introduction Parker included part of an interview Louise Bourgeois did in 1988 with Donaly Kuspit. Bourgeois said, "My feminism expresses itself in an intense interest in what women do."

I'm not a very politically oriented person. Politics are an extension of the personal, yes, but I cannot bring myself to feel moved by politics. I am moved by stories and people.

If nothing else comes from my bluntness, I'm thankful for this moment and the places it brings me.
